You’ve probably noticed that I haven’t been blogging much lately and that’s mainly because of two reasons: (1) I had family visiting this past month so I couldn’t blog and (2) my makeup routine has remained pretty consistent.
I think I’m in the final round of the purging process and I’ve nearly sold off all the makeup I’d been hoarding and not using. Now I feel like I’ve whittled down my makeup collection to the handful of products that I really love and use. Continue reading →
NYC Lovatics by Demi Lip & Cheek Tint – Cheeky Pink & Cheeky Red
Ever since NouveauCheap posted about NYC shutting down their various social media channels the other day, people within the beauty community have been in a mild panic. I say mild because NYC isn’t a super popular brand, so they’re not going to get the type of reaction that a brand like Revlon or Maybelline would if they closed their Twitter or Facebook pages.
Although NYC is a lesser known brand there are some cult favorites such as the Sunny bronzer, Sheer Red and Retro Red lipsticks but otherwise NYC has pretty much flown under the radar all these years. Personally, I’ve always loved their In a Minute Quick Dry nail polishes and I’ve mentioned them quite a lot on my blog in the past. So, of course, I was caught up in the frenzy wondering whether or not NYC is closing shop for good or if they’re just rebranding and preparing for a relaunch soon.
I’ve been faithful to their nail polishes but I really haven’t looked at any of NYC’s makeup products in a long time. If the brand’s indeed being discontinued I figured now’s as good a time as any to finally get around to trying the NYC items that I kept putting off. I’ve been really curious about the Lovatics by Demi Lip & Cheek Tints ever since I saw EmilyNoel83 review them on her channel, so I purchased two shades from Walmart for $3.57 each.
These are all of the beauty products that I loved and used consistently throughout 2015. I tried my hardest not to include any recent discoveries from November/December because I thought it was premature categorizing them “Best of 2015” beauty products when I barely got two months’ worth of use from them. Oftentimes there are products that seem to work great during one season and then perform dismally the next. I kind of want to see how some of the newer products I’ve purchased work in the summertime before I declare they’re a “Best of the Year” product.
With the exception of the e.l.f. Smudge Pot and beautyblender PRO, I believe I’ve blogged about everything else before so I’ll link you to those posts.
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer (The one I used previously was in the shade Light but I currently use the shade Neutral Medium. I use it so much, the silver writing on the tube has completely worn away.)
NYC Lip Sliders Tinted Lip Balm (These are long discontinued but I stocked up when they popped up at Dollar Tree. The shade I’m currently using is Sugar Baby but they’re all great. It’s the super moisturizing formula I love and not necessarily the colors although they do add a nice, subtle tint to the lips. I use these balms mainly as a nightly lip treatment. I slather some onto my lips before bed and when I wake up the next day it’s still on my lips. In the morning I take a wet towel and gently scrub my lips with it and the dead skin literally sloughs off, leaving smooth lips behind.)
Although highlighter is one of my favorite makeup categories, I didn’t pick a favorite this year. My favorite and most used highlighter was the RMS Living Luminizer but it was dethroned in December by Tata Harper’s Very Illuminating cream highlighter. It’s gorgeous and has worked its way into my everyday makeup routine but I didn’t feel right including it in my annual favorites list so soon. I’ll definitely be including it in my January favorites though. And I didn’t want to include the RMS highlighter as a “Best of…” product since I had already discovered something better.
Change of plans. I had planned on making a last minute purchase on the final day of Sephora’s VIB sale but the Tarte Showstopper palette ($38) that I’d had my eye on suddenly went out of stock. Ulta had it in stock though so I placed an order with them for the palette along with some Physicians Formula Organic Wear BB creams ($14.99 each) which were BOGO50%.
I originally said I wasn’t going to get it but the Nirvana lipstick wowed me so much I decided to go ahead and purchase Sonia Kashuk’s Casablanca blush ($11.99) from the same Spring 2015 Sahara Sunset collection.
