I went on a bit of an Ugg shopping spree which, for anyone who knows me, is totally unexpected. I’ve said for years that Uggs are ugly but my feet were feeling especially cold this year and I needed some warm shoes. For all the flak Uggs get, they’re undeniably cozy and comfortable. So, I ended up buying one pair when they were on clearance after the holidays…then another pair…then another pair…and I have yet another pair coming in the mail. That’s four pairs in the span of a couple of months!
I guess my view on Uggs has changed slightly. I still think they’re fugly but in a so-ugly-they’re-cute kind of a way, like sphinx cats or Mexican hairless dogs. It’s a fond sort of ugly.
The first pair of boots I ordered were the Bailey Bow Short Ruffle boots in Chestnut.

Ugg Bailey Bow Short Ruffle in Chestnut
I first saw these boots on Instagram and loved the cute double bow detail. In addition I felt the Short boot height would suit me best over the Tall or Mini boot heights. But when I got the boots and tried them on I thought the shaft height cut me off at the calves and made my legs look stumpy. Also, just from trying the boots on once I could tell that these boots wouldn’t hold their shape well.
The shaft of the Bailey Bow Short Ruffle boots is basically one big horseshoe piece of leather that wraps around the majority of the leg plus one smaller but thicker flap of leather at the back of the leg. The problem with this is the knit bows and ruffles seem to be too heavy for the flap they’re sewn on which causes the back flap to droop considerably. Not only that but the sides of the main horseshoe piece tend to droop and curl outwards too. Overall, it was a very sloppy look that I figured would just look worse over time.
I thought about returning the Bailey Bow Short Ruffle boots for the regular Bailey Bow Short boots but after scoping out tons of people in the mall with Ugg boots on this winter, I realized the problem of curling edges is a problem with all Bailey Short boots, not just the Bailey Bow Short boots. So, in the end I decided to exchange the Bailey Bow Short Ruffle boots for the even shorter Mini Bailey Bow boots.
However, right before I placed the order for those boots I saw these beauties: the Mini Bailey Bow II Glam boots in Chestnut.
In case you’re wondering, the “II” in name is basically like a version 2.0 of Ugg classic boots. Simply put, this new version is more stain resistant than their older boots which is great because I worried about them getting dirty or a little wet when it drizzled (I would never wear these out in the pouring rain).
I love the bold, big ass bows on the back of the boots. And, as I’d thought, the shorter shaft height of the Mini boots is more flattering on my legs . Furthermore, unlike the Bailey Bow Short boots, the edges of these boots don’t curl. I’ve worn these boots for the past couple of months and they’ve held their shape really well. I like them so much I actually ended up buying the same style of boots in the Dusk color, basically the same boots but in a dusty rose pink color with bows in a coordinating color. I don’t know how long Ugg boots last before falling apart but for now I’m keeping the Dusk pair boxed in my closet.
Compared to the Bailey Bow Short Ruffle boots, the Mini Bailey Bow II Glam boots are about two inches shorter in the shaft.
After those boots, I ordered the Ugg Classic Mini Idyllwild boots. Talk about a statement!
I know these boots aren’t for everyone but I love the fun animal print. When I first saw them I thought it was supposed to be a giraffe print but based on the item description it’s supposedly a “woodland” theme although they don’t specify the specific animal. I’m guessing a spotted deer?
These boots are unique in that they’re a combination of the the usual Ugg sheepskin leather but with the use of cowhide in the parts with animal print. If you look closely I think you can see the coarser textured hair in the spotted areas of the boot.

As you can see, the shaft of the Idyllwild boots are about an inch shorter than the shaft of the Mini Bailey Bow II Glam boots.
Last but not least, my most recent Ugg purchase, the Classic Mini Wisp boots in Arroyo. They’re currently on their way to me. I like the look of the regular cuffed Ugg classic boots but these have a bit more flair with that bit of fluff in a slightly different shade.
