NYX Butter Gloss – Madeleine & Tiramisu

My local CVS carries a small selection of NYX products. I’ve tried several of their face products but, aside from a couple of chubby lip pencils from ages ago, I don’t believe I’ve ever used any of their lipsticks or lip glosses before. I thought it was about time I rectified that.

For the past few weeks CVS has been running a 25% off promo on NYX, so I decided to grab two of the more nude/neutral NYX Butter Gloss (on sale $3.47 each, regularly $4.99 each) shades from the select few they had on display.

The two Butter Glosses I chose are Madeleine (mid-tone nude) and Tiramisu (neutral pink). Both have a creme finish and contain no shimmer.

This was my first experience with the NYX Butter Glossess and while I do agree that these have a lovely smooth, creamy, non-sticky texture, I suppose I was expecting a lot more based on all the raves. Perhaps the problem is the shades I chose or the fact that my natural lip color is quite washed out and pale to begin with but both Madeleine and Tiramisu are very sheer, quite muted and a bit milky in color. I was mainly disappointed in the lack of pigmentation but I also noticed that both glosses settled somewhat into my lip lines. The consistency in my opinion could’ve been a bit thicker. In general, I prefer thicker glosses because they last longer on the lips and are better at filling in and smoothing out lip lines than thinner glosses.

The NYX Butter Glosses kind of remind me of the Bonne Bell Lip Lites: smooth, comfortable and non-sticky with a sweet, dessert fragrance and semi-sheer pigmentation. My favorite Lip Lites back in the day was Mocha Mousse and I think that actually had better color payoff and staying power than NYX Madeleine and Tiramisu. Perhaps I would’ve been happier if I’d gone with the Butter Gloss in Praline which is a darker nude.
