Besides the Butter Bronzer that I totally love, another new bronzer that Physicians Formula recently came out with is the Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Baked Bronzer ($15.99). It’s available in two shades but I only purchased the lighter one, Light to Medium, from CVS.
First of all, I have to say I’m not too wild about the packaging. In general, Physicians Formula compacts tend to be very bulky because they like to include an extra compartment for a brush and mirror. That’s nothing new. The issue I have with the packaging for this particular bronzer is the lid which feels flimsy and will in all likelihood snap at the hinges with repeated use. In comparison, the lid of the Butter Bronzer feels thicker and sturdier.
The texture of this bronzer is completely different from the Butter Bronzer. The latter was a standard powder albeit a very buttery, creamy powder. However, the Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Baked Bronzer, as you’ve probably already deduced, is a baked powder. Consequently, it feels a lot drier. If you’ve ever tried any of the Milani or Prestige baked bronzers or blushes, it feels like those powders.
Going back to the Butter Bronzer, that powder holds together really well with little to no fallout in the pan. In comparison, the Bronze Booster Glow-Boosting Baked Bronzer kicks up a lot of powder. The messiness has always been an issue for me with baked powders and it’s the main reason I usually avoid them.
On the plus side, the color payoff is excellent. If you’ve been searching for a really shimmery and pigmented bronzer, look no further as this is basically a very shimmery highlighter and bronzer in one. It looks metallic in a heavy swatch but when you start to blend and sheer it out on the skin, the particles of shimmer become more obvious.
The Light to Medium shade that I have is a warm peachy gold. I usually like orange colored cheek products and find them flattering on my skin tone but this one’s too golden for my tastes and doesn’t look natural at all on my cheeks. I’m also not crazy about the shimmer. If you want a glowy bronzer, I’d recommend the Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Bronzer/Highlighter Duo and Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette for Face & Eyes instead. In my opinion, the shimmer and finish of those two powders are much more refined and the textures are a lot better too (smoother and, in the case of the Shimmer Strips powder, more buttery and not as dry).
