Updated Cargo Blush Collection

First Row (L-R): Amalfi, Bali, Cannes, Catalina, Coral Beach
Second Row (L-R): Gotham, Ibiza, Laguna, Los Cabos
Third Row (L-R): Mendocino, The Big Easy, Topeka

When I realized I owned 12 Cargo blushes I knew it was time to edit my stash. I’m not going to judge others who own a lot of makeup — people can spend their money on whatever they want — but speaking only for myself this is way too many blushes for me to own. Sometimes I get carried away and have to reign myself back in. This was one of those times.

After taking a good, hard look at my Cargo blush collection (swatching all of them helped a lot), I decided that I didn’t really need Amalfi, Bali, Catalina, and Coral Beach. (Previous Cargo stash and swatches)

Amalfi’s too similar to Ibiza and out of those two I prefer the slightly less shimmery, warmer Ibiza.

Bali closely resembles Gotham and both have that interesting blue sheen but the latter’s slightly warmer and peachier base is more flattering on me. If you prefer a pinker blush, go with Bali.

I actually really love the color of Catalina but had to admit to myself that warmer colors flatter me more, so sadly that had to go too. I’m telling you, I was brutal. I’m serious about trimming my stash.

Coral Beach is a lovely shade but reminds me too much of Topeka (the one people say is similar to NARS Luster) except deeper and more pigmented. Both are bronzey blushes but Coral Beach has stronger peach tones to it while Topeka leans a little more neutral/pink. If Topeka’s too sheer for you, check out Coral Beach.

Although I was trying to reduce the number of Cargo blushes in my collection, I ended up with a Cargo Suede Blush in Montebello. It’s the only Suede Blush I own and I really, really like it. It has a gorgeous sheen to it and the color looks a lot like The Big Easy, especially if I concentrate on the lighter marbled areas of the blush. I actually chose The Big Easy as a monthly favorite not too long ago but Montebello’s usurped its place in my heart. That’s the thing with Cargo blushes. Just when I think I’ve picked my absolute favorite shade, I discover a new shade that’s somehow even better.

Mendocino was a blush I wasn’t sure I was going to like. It looks so dark in stock photos I was afraid it would be difficult to wear on my light skin but I took a chance — heck, I’ve liked every single Cargo blush I’ve tried so far — and I’m so glad I did. I don’t usually give plum blushes a second glance but Mendocino isn’t too crazy pigmented and its golden sheen adds warmth and prevents it from looking bruise-like on light skin. Applied lightly on the cheeks, it comes across as a warm berry pink.

The other blush I decided that I didn’t need to keep was Laguna. I love the super bright color but I prefer Cannes which is a softer, more yellow shade of orange. Blushes with a lot of red, like Laguna, are hard for me to wear but I think it would look awesome on those with darker skin.

If you’ve been keeping track, that leaves me with 7 Cargo blushes: Cannes, Gotham, Ibiza, Los Cabos, Mendocino, Montebello, and Topeka. I think I’m set and I don’t foresee myself buying anymore in the near future. I considered purchasing Tonga because it seems to be a cult favorite but it’s so closely associated with Jennifer Aniston and she’s one of those celebrities that gets on my nerves. I just can’t. Ugh.
