If you’re like me and you’ve been searching for a neutral palette that contains a mix of shimmers and mattes but you don’t care for shades that are too dark, then consider Kat Von D’s True Romance Eyeshadow Palette in Saint ($36).
I ordered Saint from sephora.com several months ago but with so many other recent palette purchases it got pushed to the wayside and forgotten. It wasn’t until just this past month that I pulled it out from my stash and I’ve been using it nearly every day since then.
The shadows in the palette are described as:
Heavens – pearlized vanilla
Enjoy the Silence – pearlized butter-cream
❤ – soft pink with sparkle
Downtown – pearlized champagne
Sunny – pearlized gold
Pray For Me – pearlized taupe
Bookworm – pearlized brown
Caravaggio – dark matte brown
and a Mini Puro Amor Black Autograph Pencil Eyeliner
The Saint eyeshadows come in metallic case reminiscent of a vintage pencil tin or cigarette case, much like the Ladybird palette that I reviewed earlier.
❤ is a matte pink base with sparse silver glitter and Bookworm is a matte brown base with sparse gold glitter but in my personal experience the glitter doesn’t really show up on the eyes. These two shades along with Caravaggio, the dark matte brown, are very similar in texture and pigmentation to the matte shadows in the Ladybird palette. They’re on the drier side but have really great color payoff.
The shimmer shades all have much smoother and softer textures compared to the mattes in the palette. Sunny and especially Downtown have the softest consistencies, almost to the point of being crumbly, but also the best color payoff. They’re also the most metallic in finish and absolutely gorgeous.
The Puro Amor pencil eyeliner that comes with Saint is soft black in color with a very creamy consistency.
Although I really enjoyed Ladybird, in my opinion the color selection of Saint is much more wearable on a daily basis and I find myself a lot more impressed with the pigmentation, the mix of matte and shimmer options, and the softer, creamier textures of its shimmer shades. And as with the Ladybird palette, the shadows in the Saint palette all blend easily.
