A few weeks ago I received several complimentary Mary Kay products to test out via Influenster. I’ve had an opportunity to try them and just wanted to share some quick thoughts.
Mary Kay’s True Dimensions Lipstick in the shade Pink Cherie ($18 for 0.11 oz) is a medium pink with a satin finish that reads slightly cool against my skin tone. The texture is smooth and creamy with a lot of slip and the lipstick has a soft floral scent that’s very reminiscent of Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sensual Skin Enhancer.
I prefer warmer colors so Pink Cherie doesn’t really suit me. And, as I’ve mentioned before, if a lip product’s going to be scented I’d rather it be vanilla or some other edible scent rather than floral or fruity. This product just isn’t my cup of tea. One thing I do like, though, is the slim silver packaging that I think makes the lipstick look more expensive than it is.
Mary Kay’s Cream Eye Color in Violet Storm ($14 for 0.15 oz) is a a sheer but buildable shimmery purple shade. The texture is thin and creamy. It applies and layers easily and dries relatively quickly. The eyeshadow is completely unscented and comes in a small plastic jar.
These days I’m more into neutral matte eyeshadow shades so even though the color’s really pretty, unfortunately, this color just isn’t for me.
The VoxBox also included the Mary Kay Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush ($10) but, honestly, I usually apply cream eye shadows with my ring finger so I didn’t feel the need to use the brush. It’s a flat, paddle shaped brush with synthetic bristles.
Mary Kay’s Lash Primer ($15 for 0.28 oz) comes with a traditional nylon bristled wand applicator. The wand contains black and white bristles twisted together for an interesting look but the primer formula itself is clear and applies invisibly.
Out of the four products I received this is the only one that I’ll continue to use. I had no issues with the applicator or formula at all. It goes on easily, looks invisible and didn’t flake or clump my lashes together.
Mary Kay’s Lash Love Lengthening Mascara ($15 for 0.28 oz) claims to lift, curl, separate and create bold, instantly lengthened lashes. I received the color I ♥ Black. The mascara comes with a curved rubberized wand applicator that has very short bristles. The formula is on the drier side and contains lengthening fibers.
I didn’t run into any problems applying the mascara. It was easy to coat and brush through my lashes with the wand and applying more than one coat didn’t clump my lashes together. I didn’t notice any flaking but, unfortunately, the formula is not waterproof or water resistant and was easily removed with a wet wipe. My eyes tend to get very watery so this wasn’t the best match for me but if Mary Kay ever came out with a waterproof formula I would definitely buy one. I have to say, though, that the length that I was able to achieve with this mascara wasn’t bold but natural which is perfectly fine with me because I don’t like the falsies look.
I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
