A quick drive-by blog post to wish my fellow Chinese and Asian pals a very happy Chinese/Lunar new year.
I’ve been super busy during the last couple of weeks preparing for the New Year festivities.
My mom is usually the one who handles all the food and entertaining (readying the house and welcoming guests/family, etc.) but this year she’s actually in Taiwan. My grandmother — my mother’s mother — had a stroke and for awhile the entire family thought she would pass away. However, my grandmother made a miraculous recovery but isn’t out of the woods yet; she sometimes lapses back but then pulls out of it again. Even though she’s doing a lot better now my mom doesn’t want to leave in case my grandmother gets worse again.
My mom’s been in Taiwan since Halloween and she probably won’t be back until April so for the past few months I’ve been handling all the Thanksgiving and Christmas family dinners, and now I’m also in charge of the preparations for Chinese New Year. I’ve done Thanksgiving and Christmas on my own before but this is my first Chinese New Year where I’m doing the cooking. Fortunately, lots of long-distance phone calls to my mom and web browsing for recipes has proven successful. LOL
Hopefully, I’ll be back to posting once the celebrations are over but in the meantime I’ll link you to last year’s Chinese New Year food blog posts.
Gotta get back to work now. So busy!
